Com­peti­tors put through paces in Beach 2 Bay

5More than 50 swim­mers had a rea­son to feel ex­hausted af­ter tak­ing part in a 20km swim at Broome Re­cre­ation and Aquatic Cen­tre for the in­au­gu­ral Beach 2 Bay Vir­tual Swim last Sun­day.

Af­ter sev­eral years of run­ning the Rot­tnest Chan­nel Vir­tual Swim to vary­ing de­grees of suc­cess, Shire of Broome sport and re­cre­ation man­ager Casey Zep­nick said it was time Broome had its own event.

En­ter the Beach 2 Bay Vir­tual Swim, in which ath­letes and recre­ational swim­mers swim the 20km dis­tance be­tween Ca­ble Beach and Roe­buck Bay in the com­fort and safety of the BRAC pools.

Swim­mers were able to choose be­tween swim­ming in a team of two, a team of four or in a nov­elty re­lay team of up to 10 mem­bers.

Out of the duos, Salt and Pep­per com­pleted the swim in a time of 6hr.45min.42sec., while H2Go swam for a to­tal of 8:34:00.

Jesse’s Thun­der were the fastest team of four as they com­pleted the swim in un­der five hours.

Mul­let Mafia fin­ished the nov­elty event in just un­der 61⁄2 hours.
