Farmers set up fund to fight attacks
WA’s farmers and pastoralists have joined forces to create a fighting fund to defend their industry’s reputation.
Advocacy groups WAFarmers and the Kimberley Pilbara Cattlemen’s Association have collaborated to establish the Producer Fighting Fund to raise $50,000.
A GoFundMe page, initiated by WAFarmers president Tony York, said agricultural producers’ rights were under attack from every angle.
The fund would provide finance to deliver a united industry voice and level the playing field when under future attack.
The fundraising page said getting the messaging correct and directed to the right people meant delivering effective mainstream and social media campaigns and considerable travel for face-to-face appeals, all of which required significant human and financial resources.
“No WA agricultural advocacy body has the resources and assets to do this well alone,” Mr York said on the page.
“As such, we are calling all interested parties to have some skin in the game and help build a resource that can be called on when needed to do the job right.”
As of last week, the fund had raised $1210.
