Wel­come to the tenth an­niver­sary edi­tion of Busi­ness Ad­van­tage Pa­pua New Guinea.

Back in 2006, be­fore we launched our in­au­gu­ral edi­tion of Busi­ness Ad­van­tage Pa­pua New Guinea, we did what we’d ad­vise any busi­ness per­son to do if they’re think­ing of do­ing busi­ness in the Pa­cific’s largest econ­omy—we got on a plane to Port Moresby.

We spoke to busi­ness lead­ers, in­dus­try as­so­ci­a­tions, gov­ern­ment of­fi­cials and or­di­nary Pa­pua New Guineans, and then—and only then—we set about pro­duc­ing the first ever an­nual busi­ness and in­vest­ment guide to the coun­try.

PNG in 2006 had a much smaller econ­omy than it does to­day, but it was rich in prom­ise and op­por­tu­nity, hav­ing emerged suc­cess­fully from the tougher times of the 1980s and 1990s.

A decade ago, PNG was un­der-scru­ti­nised and un­der-re­ported in­ter­na­tion­ally, and no more so than in the area of busi­ness. Busi­ness Ad­van­tage Pa­pua New Guinea was de­signed to cor­rect that anom­aly and, over the past decade, we have dis­trib­uted around 150,000 copies of our an­nual pub­li­ca­tion to busi­ness peo­ple across the globe to pro­mote PNG as a busi­ness des­ti­na­tion.

Since 2013, we have also reached hun­dreds of thou­sands more through its com­pan­ion on­line busi­ness mag­a­zine, busi­nes­sad­van­tagepng.com.

PNG has now ex­pe­ri­enced over a decade of im­pres­sive and con­tin­u­ous eco­nomic growth and, not­with­stand­ing cur­rent global chal­lenges, con­tin­ues to at­tract international and lo­cal in­vest­ment, and host re­sources projects of global sig­nif­i­cance. Clearly, PNG is now on the global busi­ness map. This 10th an­niver­sary edi­tion of Busi­ness Ad­van­tage

Pa­pua New Guinea seeks to re­flect on how far PNG has come, as well as re­port on the next chap­ter in its eco­nomic growth.
