MELBOURNE Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) chief executive Peter King has been appointed to the International Association of Convention Centres’ (AIPC) board of directors during its 2017 General Assembly held in Sydney last week.

AIPC represents a global network of more than 180 of the world’s top convention centres from 59 countries, each involved in improving convention centre management.

King said he was excited about the role and looked forward to representing the Australasian region on the board.

“The Australasian business events industry is regarded as one of the most competitive and creative in the world and we’re driven by being nimble and customer centric.”

King said that if the region wanted to compete with Europe and the US, it was important to be represented and actively engaged in the global market.

King is also on the board of Business Events Council of Australia (BECA), the Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) and the Exhibition and Events Association of Australia (EEAA).
