FLYING THE FLAG

-

I recently travelled on British Airways (BA) to the UK for business, and on my return journey read in your magazine the news “BA makes cuts to in-flight services”. Many passengers complain about the age of the aircraft that BA uses from London to Accra, Ghana (very old B747s); they also complain about the entertainment system that BA has compared with its rivals on similar routes. [Editor’s note: the airline completed a refit of all 18 of its older B747s last August, which included fitting a new IFE system.] But I must say that having done these sectors (Accra-London return) at least half a dozen times in the past eight months, BA remains one of my favourite flights out of West Africa.

The warmth of most of its crew (particularly on the upper deck of business class, which I usually opt for) is incomparable to many other airlines. Admittedly, I may have been extremely lucky whenever I have travelled on BA recently. The generosity and choice of drinks on board, the friendliness and efficiency of the staff and the duty-free selection on board all make BA one of “the world’s favourite airlines”.

Regardless of whatever cuts the airline plans to make in the coming months, it will certainly remain my favourite choice on the Accra to Heathrow sector. Cheers to BA. Mahesh Mahtani, Accra
