Uber sig­nif­i­cantly cheaper than taxis in most ma­jor cities

A STUDY of ground trans­port costs in 85 ma­jor in­ter­na­tional cities, un­der­taken by New Zealand-based Go Rentals, found that “Uber is sig­nif­i­cantly cheaper than taxis in most cities around the world”. A cab from the air­port to the city cen­tre will cost you 86 per cent more in Auck­land, for in­stance, and 30 per cent more in Hong Kong.

There are ex­cep­tions, how­ever, with taxis found to be cheaper in Mi­lan, Rome, Dublin and Helsinki.

The ride-shar­ing app has been hav­ing mixed suc­cess of late, re­cently be­ing told its Lon­don li­cence will not be re­newed, but con­versely get­ting wider ac­cred­i­ta­tion through­out Aus­tralia. uber.com; explore.gorentals.co.nz
