The Lake eyre experience

Camera - - ON TRIAL -

A recent Canon Collective trip to Lake Eyre in South Australia provided members with a once-ina-lifetime experience of a rare flooding event which provided many stunning photographic opportunities, captured with the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV. Here a few of the participants sum up their amazing adventures.

“When the opportunity came up to travel to Lake Eyre with the Canon Collective it was just too good to pass up. Under strict weight allowances for the flights in and out, the hardest part was which gear to take and which to leave behind, but Jay and Steve from the Canon Collective also made available some extra equipment if needed. It was my first time doing proper aerial photography with the door off and we saw the most amazing landscapes under perfect conditions. My contribution is more to the abstract and I really had to use my photographer’s eye to peer ‘beneath the salt’ to find the image. Thanks, Jay, Steve and Canon for making this trip possible.” – Glen Martin

“My appreciation goes out to the Canon Collective Ambassadors in organising this wonderful photographic experience at Lake Eyre. As a bonus, the Painted Hills Anna Creek Station was a highlight not to be missed. The beauty of the area does not depend solely on water in Lake Eyre. Through Canon Collective I have found a supportive organisation for one to venture outside of your comfort zone in photography.” – Graeme Scheers

“The experience was exhilarating and wonderfully overwhelming! The environment we were immersed in was breathtaking and inspiring. The direction provided by our wonderful Canon guides was personal, yet subtle, ensuring our images were our own, but the best they could be. And our hosts were unique in their ways, agile to our needs and remarkable in their service. I cannot express enough how wonderfully planned and executed an experience it was… weeks on I am still overwhelmed and am dreaming of the next adventure!” – Joshua van Gestel

“An astounding weekend looking down on the best of nature’s art gallery. I have found a true passion for photography from the experiences I’ve had and the lessons I’ve learned through the Collective. The Ambassadors have so much time, patience and experience on offer and I feel forever grateful for being introduced to the team by a fellow photographer.” – Liz Barker

“The Lake Eyre/Painted Hills tour was the one of the most incredible, immersive tours I have ever experienced. Not only because of the phenomenal location, but also because each of us was there to get the most out of it photographically and the opportunity to share ideas and knowledge was extremely enriching. The Canon Collective Ambassadors were a wealth of knowledge and helped us with everything from gear and setting selection, to what to look for over the Lake, and processing tips on how to pull out the amazing details. Add to that the bonus of being able to borrow bodies and lenses from Canon and really test them out, with expert knowledge of that gear on tap with the Ambassadors on hand.” – Rosalie Dibben
