It’s the sale that stops Rochester

Campaspe News - - FRONT PAGE -

THE fifth annual Rochester Town Garage Sale is on Saturday.

Eighty-four site holders have signed up for this year’s event, which sees a range of new and used items go on sale — from camping gear and motorbikes to inflatable swimming pools and every sort of household item you could imagine.

Organiser Heather Darbyshire said the day was a great way to pick up a bargain or clear out unwanted items and make some money in the process.

‘‘I’m really surprised to see all these new people signing up,’’ she said.

‘‘The best thing about this event, for me, is the recycling and the community integration. People meet people and feel like it’s okay to go in and talk to each other.

‘‘It also brings people to the town and they walk the back streets — not just where the shops are— and see how beautiful it is.’’

The event is run under the banner of the Rochester Business Network.

The sales begin at 8am and run until about 2pm, depending on each site holder.

Maps are available for $2 from 7am on Saturday at Caltex, Murrays’ Milkbar, Rochester Bakery, Cafe 3561 and Rochester Discounts.

To coincide with the event, several local businesses will have specials available on Saturday only.
