Shire to pay for youth bash

CAMPASPE Shire is invit­ing ap­pli­ca­tions from the com­mu­nity to run a Na­tional Youth Week event next year.

Coun­cil is pro­vid­ing grants up of to $500 to towns, schools, agen­cies, com­mu­nity groups or or­gan­i­sa­tions who would like to work in part­ner­ship with young peo­ple to or­gan­ise lo­cal events or ac­tiv­i­ties dur­ing the na­tional week, which runs from March 31 to April 9.

‘‘The grant could be used for a va­ri­ety of things, such as a movie night, sports event, ac­tiv­i­ties day or a bus trip,’’ eco­nomic and com­mu­nity de­vel­op­ment gen­eral man­ager Keith Oberin said.

‘‘Na­tional Youth Week em­pow­ers young peo­ple to ac­ti­vate their ideas about how to recog­nise and cel­e­brate their achieve­ments with sup­port avail­able from our youth en­gage­ment team.’’

There are six grants avail- able, with a range of cri­te­ria to be met, in­clud­ing that the event be al­co­hol and drug free, ac­ces­si­ble to all young peo­ple and oc­cur in the shire dur­ing Na­tional Youth Week.

Ap­pli­ca­tions are open and close at 5pm on Fri­day.
