Riders put through their paces

A THREE day horsemanship clinic was held at Elmore Equestrian Park at the weekend for keen riders and their horses.
Ross Jacobs Good Horsemanship has been coming to the area for the past six years and worked with individual horses and their owners to develop a better relationship.
Amanda Souter has been a student of Ross’ for 15 years and was responsible for organising the local clinics.
Souter said participants gain a closer connection with their horses and clinics created a more equal relationship between horse and rider.
‘‘We had around six people participate in the actual clinic and another six fence-sitters who were able to ask questions throughout the lessons about why horses responded in certain ways and the like,’’ Souter said.
‘‘The one thing I have taken away from his teaching is that every horse is different moment by moment, day to day, and you can’t expect because it does something right one day it will be the same the next.
‘‘You can never blame the horse for something you’re not getting right.’’
Souter added horse owners should always question what they’re told about horsemanship and how they treat their horses.
Kim Howard participated in the clinic and has been a keen student of Ross Jacobs Good Horsemanship for a number of years, attending the past three clinics held in Victoria.
Her communication and riding has improved with her horse Barney since she began learning under Ross and has enabled her to progress to level two in the Horse Riding Club Association of Victoria.
Anyone interested in taking part in next year’s clinic or would like more information on Ross Jacobs Good Horsemanship can contact Amanda on 0427 591 139 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Souter also offers lessons and mentorship on horsemanship and is working towards collaborations with other riders at Elmore Events Centre.
