Eagle’s Ideal start
ROCHESTER trots trainer Mark Thompson produced former New Zealand pacer Ideal Eagle for his third Australian win at the past week’s Maryborough meeting.
The four-year-old American Ideal mare Ideal Eagle was first-up from a spell but was sent out a $2.10 favourite in a C1 only class race so the win was popular with punters.
Ideal Eagle was driven a treat by Todd Matthews and won comfortably from the Elmore-trained Kamwood Caeser with the well supported Valentina Brave filling the third placing.
Thompson has had the mare in his stable for eight starts this year, stepping out on Australian soil for the first time in June.
She had 13 starts in New Zealand for just the one win but six top-four finishes.
Her dam the Tuapeka Knight mare Skyhigh Eagle had just the one start for one win and her breeding is from another age with Light Brigade and U Scott in her bloodlines.
The junior light class of the Victoria Karting Association for 2016 saw an all-Rochester club podium with Nicholas Trebilcock (Kyabram), Adam Campbell (Echuca) and Liam Hall (Shepparton).
