Young stars take to the court

FOUR ten­nis play­ers from the Lod­don Campaspe re­gion played at Din­g­ley Ten­nis Club at the week­end for the un­der 12 Ali­cia Mo­lik cup.

Rochester’s Alex In­gram, 11, teamed up with Mitchell Do­dos, 12 from Kyabram, Is­abella Cross­man, 10 from Rich River, and Toby Howlett, 12 from Bendigo, in group B of the tour­na­ment.

The team com­peted against play­ers from metropoli­tan and re­gional ar­eas which in­cluded Waver­ley, Western re­gion, Cen­tral High­lands, North East re­gion and Morn­ing­ton Penin­sula.

Eigh­teen teams en­tered over­all for the round-robin event with four games played on the Satur­day and the fi­nal round and fi­nals played on Sun­day.

Lod­don Campaspe ended the tour­na­ment in 14th and fifth in their group, hav­ing come up against some fierce com­pe­ti­tion from the metropoli­tan re­gions.

Teams played dou­bles and sin­gles dur­ing the two days.

Lod­don Campaspe won against Morn­ing­ton Penin­sula in the round-robin com­pe­ti­tion four sets, 29 games to two sets, 15 games, but only se­cured an­other three sets through­out the tour­na­ment.

The next re­gional team event of the 2017-18 series will be the in­ter-re­gional coun­try cham­pi­onships at Swan Hill Lawn Ten­nis Club on Jan­uary 6-8.
