Young stars take to the court
FOUR tennis players from the Loddon Campaspe region played at Dingley Tennis Club at the weekend for the under 12 Alicia Molik cup.
Rochester’s Alex Ingram, 11, teamed up with Mitchell Dodos, 12 from Kyabram, Isabella Crossman, 10 from Rich River, and Toby Howlett, 12 from Bendigo, in group B of the tournament.
The team competed against players from metropolitan and regional areas which included Waverley, Western region, Central Highlands, North East region and Mornington Peninsula.
Eighteen teams entered overall for the round-robin event with four games played on the Saturday and the final round and finals played on Sunday.
Loddon Campaspe ended the tournament in 14th and fifth in their group, having come up against some fierce competition from the metropolitan regions.
Teams played doubles and singles during the two days.
Loddon Campaspe won against Mornington Peninsula in the round-robin competition four sets, 29 games to two sets, 15 games, but only secured another three sets throughout the tournament.
The next regional team event of the 2017-18 series will be the inter-regional country championships at Swan Hill Lawn Tennis Club on January 6-8.
