CAMPASPE Shire has backed Anzac Day services in Rochester and Lockington. The council granted $800 to the Rochester RSL subbranch at a ceremony on Thursday. This is the first time the sub-branch has received funding from outside of the RSL, with funds going towards the running of ANZAC services in both towns. Rochester RSL sub-branch president John Glover said he was excited at the progression of support the club continued to receive. “I think its fantastic the council is backing us,” he said. “I have only been with the Rochester RSL for four years now and to get the level of community support that we now enjoy is brilliant.” ANZAC day is one of the biggest on the RSL calendar and Mr Glover believes receiving the grant is validation they are meeting what the public expects. “The dawn service has only been going for the past four years so is reasonably new,” he said. “To get the backing from the council says we are meeting community needs and expectations.” “The levels of interest we receive from the community is growing every day.”
