Gear­ing up for a big Aus­tralia Day

AUS­TRALIA Day is fast ap­proach­ing and the Rochester com­mu­nity is in­vited to join in the cel­e­bra­tions, which in­clude a com­mu­nity break­fast pro­vided by Rochester Lions Club fol­lowed by the flag rais­ing cer­e­mony on the RSL lawn with the pre­sen­ta­tion of com­mu­nity award cer­tifi­cates.

Aus­tralia Day am­bas­sador Stan Alves will speak at the flag rais­ing cer­e­mony and present the award cer­tifi­cates.

Aus­tralia Day in Rochester is al­ways cel­e­brated with en­thu­si­asm and the yearly turnout shows great com­mu­nity sup­port.

If you know of wor­thy re­cip­i­ents for com­mu­nity award cer­tifi­cates from your sport­ing club, school, or group please con­tact the Rochester Aus­tralia Day Cel­e­bra­tions Com­mit­tee on 5484 1147 or 5484 3741 with de­tails.

These cer­tifi­cates can be for par­tic­i­pa­tion, achieve­ment or en­cour­age­ment in any ar­eas.

In the evening there will be a din­ner to recog­nise lo­cal re­cip­i­ents of the Shire of Cam­papse Aus­tralia Day Awards with Sharelle McMa­hon the guest speaker.

The din­ner is at 4Rs and tick­ets can be pur­chased from Rochester Mitre 10.

There is also a 2017 Aus­tralia Day Pho­to­graphic Com­pe­ti­tion. The sub­ject is ‘My Aus­tralia’ and there will be sec­tions for all age groups.

En­tries must be 13x18cm prints in black and white or colour. Com­pe­ti­tion sec­tions are:

■ Ju­nior Pri­mary, Grade 1-3

■ Se­nior Pri­mary, Grade 4-6

■ Ju­nior Sec­ondary, Year 7- 9

■ Se­nior Sec­ondary, Year 10-12

■ Open. Pho­tographs should be mounted on A4 card and have the en­trant’s de­tails in­clud­ing age on the back.

Please place your photo in a suit­able en­ve­lope to pro­tect it.
