Shining spirit of Christmas

Campaspe News - - NEWS -

ONCE again Christmas has brought the Rochester community together.

The annual Rochester Salvation Army Christmas day lunch brought together a record number of those who had nowhere else to go.

The Harris family hosted 52 people of all ages with overwhelming support from volunteers and the wider community.

‘‘It would have to be the highest number of people we have ever had,’’ Travis Harris told Campaspe News.

‘‘The day was fabulous, it was great to see so many people come together and it had a really nice family feeling,’’ he said.

‘‘There was a traditional roast lunch, with turkey, chicken and all the trimmings such as roast vegetables.’’

Mr Harris said it is the continuous support from the community in the lead up to the day which makes a huge difference.

‘‘We had lots of donations from presents to everything from food donations to money,’’ he said.

‘‘The community is always really supportive and I think we have a great town full of generous people.

‘‘People just want to help out those who are less fortunate than themselves, and Christmas is a great time for people to come together.’’

Santa was a special guest, handing out gifts to excited children who entertained with some singing.
