Lod­don’s sec­ond in Vic­to­ria In­ter-Re­gional ten­nis

LOD­DON Cam­paspe has been named the re­gion’s sec­ond best fol­low­ing the 2017 Ten­nis Vic­to­ria In­ter-Re­gional Coun­try Cham­pi­onships at the week­end.

The team fin­ished 18 points be­hind the even­tual win­ner, Goulburn Re­gion, on 251, fol­low­ing three days of strong com­pe­ti­tion against some 250 of the best play­ers across 11 re­gions.

Only two play­ers for ev­ery age group were se­lected from each re­gion with Rochester’s Alex Ingram cho­sen to rep­re­sent Lod­don Cam­paspe in the un­der 12s.

She made it through to the quar­ter fi­nals of the con­so­la­tion draw in the singles and came run­nerup with part­ner Si­las Kingma from Rich River in her mixed dou­bles draw af­ter drop­ping the first match 1-6 and win­ning the sec­ond 6-3.

She was the top seed in the dou­bles with Rich River’s Is­abella Cross­man and made it straight into the semi-fi­nals be­fore los­ing 2-6, 4-6 to the team from Cen­tral High­lands.

Swan Hill Lawn Ten­nis and Croquet Club hosted the oc­ca­sion which saw play­ers be­gin­ning from un­der 12s com­pete in age cat­e­gories right through to 35 and over.

Teams played dou­bles, mixed and singles matches with points earned go­ing to­wards the re­gion’s over­all to­tal.

Goulburn Re­gion ended Bar­won’s eight-year reign and broke its own 56 year drought in the process of claim­ing the 61st cham­pi­onship event.
