Loddon’s second in Victoria Inter-Regional tennis
LODDON Campaspe has been named the region’s second best following the 2017 Tennis Victoria Inter-Regional Country Championships at the weekend.
The team finished 18 points behind the eventual winner, Goulburn Region, on 251, following three days of strong competition against some 250 of the best players across 11 regions.
Only two players for every age group were selected from each region with Rochester’s Alex Ingram chosen to represent Loddon Campaspe in the under 12s.
She made it through to the quarter finals of the consolation draw in the singles and came runnerup with partner Silas Kingma from Rich River in her mixed doubles draw after dropping the first match 1-6 and winning the second 6-3.
She was the top seed in the doubles with Rich River’s Isabella Crossman and made it straight into the semi-finals before losing 2-6, 4-6 to the team from Central Highlands.
Swan Hill Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club hosted the occasion which saw players beginning from under 12s compete in age categories right through to 35 and over.
Teams played doubles, mixed and singles matches with points earned going towards the region’s overall total.
Goulburn Region ended Barwon’s eight-year reign and broke its own 56 year drought in the process of claiming the 61st championship event.
