Weneed more help to make your bras go far
Danny Kepa and Colleen Curran are collecting bras.
LOCKINGTON’S Curran family have almost 1000 donated bras bound for the Torres Strait Islands.
But because of the overwhelming response the family now needs help paying to get them there.
‘‘It would normally only cost me about $40 or $50 to get the bras we donate each year over there, which we are happy to pay for,’’ Colleen Curran said.
‘‘But we now have four massive boxes full of hundreds and hundreds of bras which will cost a lot more than that.
‘‘We can’t thank everyone enough for all the donations and the businesses who put their hand up to be drop off points.
‘‘The response was overwhelming.’’
For most Australian women having a bra is such a part of life they can’t wait to get home and get it off.
But for our neighbours on the Torres Strait Islands the price of this clothing necessity puts the comfort of a bra during the day out of reach.
And for the third year the family are set to send over unwanted or unused bras.
‘‘We want to put the call out to a trucking company who could get the boxes to Cairns or community or service clubs who wish to donate to the cause,’’ Colleen said.
‘‘Anything anyone can contribute would be great.’’
