Milk bar closure is bittersweet
David and Judy Murray are selling up.
MURRAY’S Milk Bar is closing its doors.
The family-run business has been at the corner store on Edward and George Streets, Rochester, for almost four years and will close on November 1.
Owners David and Judy Murray said it was getting too hard to manage.
‘‘I am 68 and am a bit past it all now,’’ David said. ‘‘It has been hard work working six days a week and getting up early for the past few years.
‘‘We would like to spend some more time with our five grandkids and I want to improve on my bowls.’’
David said they have had continued support from the community.
‘‘The kids and teachers from the school and local businesses have all supported us, which has been great,’’ he said.
‘‘Hopefully someone can buy it and keep the store going as a family business.
‘‘It is a great opportunity for a family to live and work in the same spot.
‘‘And of course everyone cooking.’’ Judy said the decision to sell was bittersweet. ‘‘I am a bit sad that we are closing this chapter,’’ she said. ‘‘I really enjoy all the customers who come in.
‘‘I have been behind a counter since I was 15 so it is something that I love.’’ The pair bought the store in January 2014. ‘‘We have made it into a very nice little shop that serves a lot of people,’’ David said.
The business and adjoining home is for sale through Ray White Rochester. loves Judy’s
