COLBINABBIN Primary School has celebrated its 100th birthday.

Current and past students, teachers and community members celebrated 100 years of quality education on October 28 and 29 with their Back to Colbinabbin Primary School weekend.

Principal Robyn MacLean said the weekend was an ‘‘enormous success’’.

‘‘Both days were incredibly busy as many past students, their parents, teachers, principals and school community members gathered at the school to enjoy the wonderful displays and share their memories of their time at Colbinabbin Primary,’’ she said.

‘‘The displays showing many wonderful artefacts, documents and photos were enjoyed and included a wide range of artefacts including student work — report cards, school committee and parent and friends committee minutes and of course, many photos from each decade.’’

Ms MacLean said a range of commemorative souvenirs were on sale.

‘‘This included our commemorative book, which has been created to mark this auspicious occasion,’’ she said.

‘‘The celebrations continued on Saturday night with a delicious roast dinner, which was catered for by our hard-working organising committee, staff and parents and friends of the school.

‘‘About 120 people enjoyed the meal and each other’s company in the picturesque grounds of the school on the Cornella Creek.

‘‘The grounds were looking stunning thanks to the hard work of school councillors and parents.

‘‘School council president Iain Downie and I delivered short speeches to welcome back all in attendance and to thank those who had worked so hard to put on such a fabulous event.’’

Robyn made particular mention of the five past principals who were in attendance — Barrie Winzar, Keith Ring, Margaret Hoelter, Marty Morris and Kelvyn Miller.

‘‘Together, the principals have led the school for a total of 36 years,’’ she said.

‘‘Sunday saw the school once again filled to the brim with people eager to enjoy the displays and reminisce about times gone by.

‘‘About 150 people enjoyed a barbecue lunch in the glorious sunshine.’’

The celebration book has sold out, however, further orders are being taken. Contact the school at colbinabbin.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au to order a copy.
