Overdue car overtaking lanes close
LONG overdue overtaking lanes between Echuca and Rochester are not far from completion.
The $5.8 million investment by the Victorian Government will see two overtaking lanes constructed along the Northern Hwy.
Minor traffic delays will remain in place until the works are completed with the northbound overtaking lane, located 6km north of Rochester, expected to be completed by July.
VicRoads regional director, northern region Brian Westley said the roadworks are improving a key stretch of the Northern Highway.
‘‘And adding overtaking lanes in both directions between Rochester and Echuca,’’ he said.
‘‘We know that this is an important section of the regional roads network — particularly for freight and tourist traffic — and that’s why we’re making overtaking easier and safer.’’
A southbound overtaking opportunity will also be constructed 10km south of EchucaMoama with works starting in the next few weeks.
Traffic management, including lane closures, speed reductions and minor delays, are still in place while roadworks are completed.
Mr Westley said VicRoads would like to thank everyone for their help in keeping road workers and road users safe by complying with reduced speeds.
