Pick me, pick me, says the museum
FORBSEY needs your help.
The Rochester Sports Museum is well on its way to having a new home — and Rochester Lions Club has applied for a $102,480 grant through the community grants initiative Pick My Project to see this new premise fitted-out.
But they need as many locals to vote as possible for the project to be successful.
To assist residents to lodge their vote, the Lions will be holding a Pick My Project Voting Session outside the Rochester IGA on Thursday (September 13) from 9am-4pm.
Residents who would like assistance to lodge their vote are encouraged to stop by.
The process is simple and will only take two minutes. If you own a mobile phone please bring this with you.
The museum, which features an impressive sporting collection from John Forbes (pictured below), who spent 24 years as Australian sponsorship manager for sports goods company Puma, will be housed in the Rochester Railway Station.
The funding will go towards mannequins, videos and other features to make sure one of Australia’s finest sporting memorabilia collections is wellpresented.
Through his work Mr Forbes met countless sporting identities, with these associations resulting in his massive collection including international and local sports memorabilia.
‘‘We want this museum to attract people of all ages,’’ Mr Forbes said.
‘‘It’s very important we get families to come.
‘‘A museum like this shows children what others have achieved and what they themselves can achieve, it doesn’t matter where you’re from.
‘‘This is what sport is all about — inspiring people and bringing them closer together.’’
Voting closes on Monday.
