Ute found burnt out after theft at farm
A NANNEELLA farmer has lost thousands of dollars in equipment and tools after his ute was stolen and found burnt out.
Paul Geltch woke up at about 6.30am on September 10 to find his 2015 Mazda BT-50 ute missing from his Fletcher Rd farm.
‘‘Initially I thought my partner had moved it but then realised it was stolen,’’ he said.
‘‘It’s a pretty horrible feeling. I only bought it about three, four months ago and all my stuff was in it.’’
Inside the ute was about $2000 worth of drip irrigation equipment, as well as power tools and his wallet containing his work and personal credit cards.
‘‘They haven’t been used from what I can see,’’ Mr Geltch said.
He said his vehicle was unlocked and the keys were inside.
‘‘Usually I go in and out and if the irrigation had stopped I would have gone out there,’’ he said.
‘‘I didn’t even hear anything and usually I’m a pretty light sleeper.’’
Mr Geltch has reported the theft to Echuca police who are investigating.
The ute was worth about $38,000.
Echuca Criminal Investigative Unit is investigating.
