Rochy on the board
‘‘Corey did a really good job for us,’’ Bubb said.
‘‘At 0/100 you’re not going to lose too many games from there chasing 161.
‘‘He (Windridge) only had his first hit at training last week leading up to the game. He hasn’t been around much.
‘‘We hope he can carry on and have a really good season for us.’’
The signs are good for a big season for the new Rochester Cricket Club. Across the two weeks so far, the club has only suffered one loss in all grades.
‘‘While it was good for us (A grade) to get a win, even more pleasing is that B grade, C grade and the under 16 have all started well,’’ Bubb said.
The amalgamation of two rival cricket clubs from the one town seems to have transitioned without a hiccup.
‘‘There hasn’t been any issue,’’ Bubb said.
‘‘It’s been a really smooth merger.
‘‘The highlight has been our B grade teams. We have a B grade team of over 18 players and another B grade team of under 18 players and both haven’t lost a game yet.
‘‘That shows there’s a lot of future A grade players coming through the club.’’
The newly found form of Rochester will be put to the test this week when it travels to the undefeated Tongala.
Tonny has been impressive in its two games so far this season under new coach Dan Coombs.
On Saturday, the team enhanced its reputation when it dispatched Echuca South in dominant style.
Last season’s joint GMC cricketer of the year Adam Nunn scored 22 and took 2/33, as well as a catch, as Tongala reeled in South’s total of 112.
‘‘Tongala haven’t lost, they’re in good form so it will be a tough game for us,’’ Bubb said.
‘‘We need to keep improving. As I said we didn’t play well in the first and there are still areas we need to work on but hopefully we can build throughout the season.’’

FOR our annual trip away, 16 members travelled to the lovely undulating sand dunes of the Tocumwal golf club. Newest member Nathan Marrone showed his outstanding sporting ability is not only limited to football and combined with Chris White they scored 45 stableford points from excaptain Leigh Hicks and captain Richard Feuk on 44 points.
The pairings of Jake Wright and Bruce Bryant and Peter Hyden and Robert Vise were next on 41 points. New member Ken Lambert (2), Wright (8), Marrone (14) and Bryant (18) were nearest the pin winners.
Des Gallagher’s fine round of 43 points saw him named the B grade winner at Rich River last Tuesday.
Hot scoring was on show last Wednesday in the nine-holetwo ball ambrose event over the back nine.
Peter Anderson and Kevin McCormick finished with five under 31 net 23.25 which included an eagle one on the 12 and birdies on 14,17 and 18. All the while playing partners in Robert Vise and Alex McQuibban birded 12, 16 and 17 for 37 net 27.75.
Anderson’s hole in one is the first for more than seven years and the 12th since moving to our new course 34 years ago. It appears no aces were recorded at the old course when played around the racecourse for more than 50 years.
