THE Willetton Baseball Club started out 40 years ago as a teeball club.

It merged with Willetton Wildcats Softball Club to create a pathway for young female teeballers to continue playing to adult competition.

It was only 10 years ago that an adult baseball team was added to the club, and three season ago the club added its women’s baseball team.

The WBC Wildcats now boasts nearly 200 teeball families with children aged four to 11 years, 12 junior baseball teams, three junior softball teams, five senior softball teams competing at the highest A grade level, and seven senior baseball teams and a women’s team.

Five hundred members strong, the club prides itself on being a strong family club, club chairman Jes Fitzgerald said.

“Many families have mums or dads playing senior baseball or softball as well as kids in teeball and/or junior baseball and softball,” he said.

“The club continues to grow and this off-season we contributed to the lighting upgrade of Willetton Park that now allows our teams to train under lights for the first time.”

A 20-year-old photo shows junior players who were looking for a home elsewhere for senior baseball but have since returned to the club after it introduced its senior baseball division.
