Nicholson Road Bridge dealt a better hand
THE Nicholson Road Bridge over the Canning River is getting an upgrade.
The bridge, which connects Langford to Beckenham, will receive $622,000 in funding as part of the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program.
The 64-year-old, two-lane timber bridge will have its load limit vastly increased from the current 14 tonnes to 166 tonnes. The upgrades are expected to increase the bridge’s lifespan by 15 years until its replacement.
Hasluck MHR Ken Wyatt said the bridge was a vital link in the community and its upgrade was a necessity.
“The upgrade of this bridge will improve driving conditions for residents and local truck drivers as well as increasing connectivity in the region,” Mr Wyatt said.
