PAIR’S ART ON DISPLAY

Canning Times - - OPINION -

TWO Southern River College students have had their artwork selected for display in a prestigious exhibition.

Tanya Parfitt and Richard Kickett’s artwork will be displayed at the Young Originals exhibition, hosted by the Western Australian Secondary School Executive Association.

The pair’s paintings, Connection with Nature and The Snake respectively, drew on their Aboriginal heritage.

Tanya’s piece aimed to show the peacefulness of nature through a variety of tones of blue and white and reflected her family’s love of nature, while Richard’s work was painted in a traditional style.

Art teacher Marc Bikem said he was delighted to see his two students nominated.

“I’m so happy for them, I can see they’re learning we’ve and now they’re actually more confident in their art,” he said.

Mr Bikem said he hoped their achievements would inspire their classmates.

“I hope they think: ‘If one of my friends can achieve, why not me?’,” he said.
