Six inspiring seasons
A drab, uninspiring wall at Bentley Primary School has been transformed into a colourful portrayal of the six Noongar seasons.
THE six Noongar seasons can now be enjoyed all at the same time thanks to a new mural unveiled at Bentley Primary School on Friday.
Students worked alongside Noongar artist Jade Dolman to create the large artwork, which depicts the seasons of Birak, Bunuru, Djeran, Makuru, Djilba and Kambarang.
Bentley Primary School school council secretary Lynne Anderson said it was an important project for the school community to be part of because they wanted to encourage people to feel comfortable making connections and embracing their differences.
“This communal mural, which will be along the wall of our undercover assembly area, will provide a vibrant and welcoming environment and celebrate the coming together and acceptance of culture,” she said.
“Together with our cultural diversity there are students from marginalised and disadvantaged families and to work with an artist in residence introduces them to a new environment outside of the school program.
“Art in this way breaks down all barriers, whether language or otherwise.”
