Canning Times - - OPINION -

I presented a petition of 1020 signatures at the Canning City Council meeting on October 17 opposing a proposal by Transperth to divert 214 buses a day (one every three minutes) from Albany Highway to residential streets.

This matter is set to come before the council this month.

Imagine my amazement the next morning when surveying was in progress for what will, if approved, be costly road alterations and destruction of bush environment.

Has Transperth, through fare rises, got money to spend on what we hope is a futile exercise before a council decision – or is this a forgone conclusion? GEORGE BEACROFT, Cannington Editor’s note: The City of Canning has a special council meeting about this matter for Thursday, November 23 at 6pm.
