Classic touch wins

Canning Times - - WHAT'S ON -

FOR all the restoration involved in converting Fremantle’s historic Woolstores to trendy Heirloom Apartments, the paint job should not be overlooked.

Master Painters and Decorators Australia certainly didn’t, awarding Willetton-based Classic Contractors a major award for the impressive finish.

The well-credentialed organisation took out the category of New Construction (Housing/Additions) for a project valued over $800,000.

Classic Contractors managing director Mark Stewart said the challenge – which judges rewarded – was to balance the competing interests of heritage with a contemporary high standard of finish.

“You want to reflect the image of the old building as well as reflect the modern-day standards and requirements,” he said.

He paid tribute to project leader Eilish, who had up to 40 staff completing more than $1 million in painting works as part of the Heirloom Apartments assignment, which took about 12 months to complete.

It’s the fourth year in a row that Classic Contractors has been recognised at the Master Painters and Decorators Australia awards.
