AL­MOST 18,000 blood, plasma and platelet do­na­tions have been made at the Cannington Blood Donor Cen­tre since it opened in Novem­ber last year.

And while the cen­tre cel­e­brates its first birth­day to­day, it is also cel­e­brat­ing the gen­eros­ity of lo­cals who have do­nated 8400 litres of blood and saved more than 53,000 lives in the last 12 months.

Blood Ser­vice spokes­woman Jes­sica Wil­let said the cen­tre had also wel­comed more than 2100 peo­ple new to do­nat­ing.

“To­gether, the lo­cal com­mu­nity has do­nated more than 8400 litres of blood in the past year, which is enough to fill around 30 bath­tubs,” she said.

“Our blood donors and the broader com­mu­nity should be very proud of this in­cred­i­ble, lifesaving ef­fort.
