No short­age of runs as Willetton posts 322

WILLETTON has car­ried its bril­liant form from round 5 into round 6 with a su­perb day 1 bat­ting per­for­mance on Satur­day against Melville, scor­ing a whop­ping 322.

Af­ter win­ning the toss and elect­ing to bat, Willetton rarely missed a beat to start the in­nings at Bur­ren­dah Re­serve 1.

Sit­ting com­fort­ably at 2-83, D’arcy Short and Aaron Hardie pressed the ad­van­tage for the home side, putting on an ef­fer­ves­cent 68-run part­ner­ship.

Af­ter Hardie was dis­missed at 3-151, Short con­tin­ued his ram­page with the bat, even­tu­ally fin­ish­ing with 125 from 174, in­clud­ing 18 fours from a whop­ping 196 min­utes at the crease.

Kallen Bond and Will Rhodes con­tin­ued to frus­trate the Melville bowlers once Short was dis­missed, scor­ing 38 and 37 re­spec­tively late in the in­nings.

Melville’s Mark Turner took out the last three wick­ets, in­clud­ing a ter­rific run-out, as Willetton fin­ished with a mag­nif­i­cent 322.

Melville will start its run chase on day 2 on Satur­day.
