Hackathon tests students’ minds

Canning Times - - FRONT PAGE -

STUDENTS from two local schools put their minds to the test at the City of Canning’s most recent youth Hackathon.

Thirty students from St Norberts College and Canning Vale College took part in the event, tasked with developing water solutions using technology and innovation. Participants were asked to ‘bring water to the surface’ while keeping in mind how to connect people’s values and behaviours to help communities embrace the water cycle.

The event was organised as part of the City’s new partnership with Just Start It, an organisation of mentors that brings Silicon Valley methodologies into classroom. A panel of judges selected the top three ideas. The winners will work on their ideas with Just Start It before officially pitching them at the City’s Pitch Off event during National Water Week in October.
