Curtin raises the bar with innovation hub
CURTIN University will be home to a new innovation hub designed to maximise industry engagement.
The WA Data Science Innovation Hub will be launched at Curtin’s Perth and Bentley sites next month after an $800,000 State Government grant.
The hub will provide access to specialised data science in universities, upskilling programs for industry, and the translation of data science from the resources to emerging sectors.
Industry and stakeholders in the data science community were consulted on the innovation hub to ensure it supported local jobs and benefited the economy.
Chief scientist of WA Peter Klinken said he was excited by the hub’s potential and was “convinced” it would drive activity and growth in key sectors.
“Data science is extremely important to WA’s economic development and jobs growth,” he said.
“It underpins a number of sectors in WA including mining and energy, life sciences, agri-tech, defence, space and new technology businesses.”
