Indonesian cultural celebration in Cannington.

CANNINGTON Town Hall is set to be engulfed in Indonesian culture as Komunitas Cinta Berkain Indonesia WA (KCBIWA) celebrates its second anniversary.

The worldwide organisation’s WA branch, established to celebrate and conserve Indonesian fabrics and fashion, will gather to toast its second year as a club from 5.30pm to 9pm on September 1.

KCBIWA chairwoman Laksmi Hayes said the night would feature an array of Indonesian culture, including a live band and DJ, singers, traditional dancers and an ethnic fabric fashion show featuring a designer from East Java.

“There will be some dancing and some contemporary dances, including a line dance combined with a traditional dance, but everyone will be wearing ethnic fabric; it’s a way to show our fabrics,” she said,

“Rather than walking up and down aisles on a catwalk, we are showing it through dancers.”

Ms Hayes said the club took it upon themselves to be active in the community and were always keen to lend a helping hand where need be.

“We are trying to go to communities and if they have a charity event, we are willing to come and perform for free,” she said.

“We are very involved every Tuesday to feed the homeless; we have a very active social team.”
