Join the walk and get that heeling feeling
HARCOURTS WA is inviting the public to join its fourth national Walk a Mile in Their Shoes event on Friday, August 31.
The annual walk, organised by the Harcourts Foundation, supports White Ribbon Australia’s work to end men’s violence against women, with all funds raised going to the not-for-profit organisation’s “Breaking the Silence” primary prevention initiatives in primary and secondary schools.
Harcourts WA Foundation ambassador Adrienne Musca said while violence was experienced by both men and women, most domestic violence victims in Australia were women, the violence was most likely to be perpetrated by a man and, on average, one woman was killed every week in Australia because of intimate partner violence.
“Violence against women is never a private issue,” she said.
“We are holding this event to help break the silence around violence, to raise awareness of the issue as well as funds to support work to bring violence against women to an end.”
Each year more than 600 supporters across Australia have walked a mile in women’s heels to support the cause.
Over $400,000 has been raised for White Ribbon Australia so far and the Harcourts Foundation is hoping to reach a milestone $500,000 this year.
The WA event will be held from 11am at Victoria Gardens in East Perth, with the walk commencing at 11.30am. Participants are encouraged to wear women’s heels.
