Damper adds to camp bush spirit

Central and North Burnett Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

PARTICIPATION was hot on the agenda at the Bush Spirit Festival in Eidsvold.

There were whip-cracking competitions, camp-oven cooking lessons, indigenous games and a ringer’s challenge.

Jim and Jocelyn Robertson have been cooking dampers for functions around the North Burnett for many years.

And this time they took on Darcy Knudsen as their apprentice.

Their efforts were appreciated by all who took the lessons and enjoyed the dampers and billy tea.

Several teams of two lined up for the ringer’s challenge, which involved a swag, a wheelbarrow, putting on some items of clothing and running for the finish line.

Time penalties were used to discourage teams from taking shortcuts and competition was friendly, funny and fast.

Father and son team Richard and Hugh Reiser emerged the winners.
