NEW businesses are filling Monto’s main street and the town is feeling a revival.

Newton St is home to 33 businesses as well as the library.

And there are currently 11 vacant shop fronts.

Judy Baldwin has been a Monto resident for 17 years and said she was impressed with the emerging new look.

“I have seen the street lose business, but now it is looking fabulous,” she said.

“Where there was nothing, now visitors can turn a corner and want to explore.”

MayorDonWaugh said the appearance of newshops showed a growing level of confidence in the town after a decreasing number of businesses in recent years.

“There seems to be a newfeeling in Monto of looking to the fu- ture,” CrWaugh said.

“And council are more than happy to lend our support.

“We commend the initiative taken by business owners.”

Cr Waugh said some of the confidence in the town may have resulted from mining activity in the area.
