Local Fishing Reports: Local creeks are fishing the best they have in a long time. Heaps of goldens being caught bobbing saltwater yabbies and worms, but even more being caught on bright coloured hard bodied lures. Have heard of at least 10 cod over the 70cm mark this week and most of them being caught on lures. Boondooma Dam: Nice bass and goldens caught by bouncing masked vibes off the bottom as well as jigging SMAK ice jigs around the start of the Stuart and Boyne. Slow trolling green and gold SMAK 18ft divers has also produced some nice fish around rocky points. Some good goldens and jew caught on worms and live shrimp. No reports of red claw as yet. Bjelke-Petersen Dam: Live bait seems to be working best at the moment. Goldens have been caught on the troll using 8m divers. I recommend SMAK Blitz Baga. Also some nice size bass getting around again on trolled hard and soft bodied jackalls. Lake Somerset: Fishing great at the moment with blades working well. Live bait has produced some nice fish as with salt water yabbies. Soft plastics and masked vibes working well around Pelican Point. Coastal: Sand whiting in the lower reaches of the Maroochy River, chopper tailor and trevally at the Cod Hole, trevally and mangrove jack around the Motorway Bridge pylons in the Maroochy Region. Sand whiting upstream from the power lines, flathead and bream at the Five Ways and flathead between Eden and Kangaroo Islands at Jumpinpin. Offshore: Red emperor and pearl perch about 12 miles north of Wide Bay Bar at Rainbow Beach. Snapper, pearl perch, tuskfish and moses perch on North Reef on Thursday and snapper, pearl perch, gold spotted wrasse, hussar, tuskfish and moses perch on the Barwon Banks out from Noosa. Yellowtail king and moses perch on Coolum Reef and pearl perch and snapper at Caloundra 12 Mile. Don’t forget the Dalby Fishing Competition on the banks of the Myall Creek on October 28.
