Teen futsal talent selected for national team tour
AFTER playing futsal for just 12 months, 15-year-old Biggenden school girl Jacinta Griffin has quickly risen to the top of the sport.
Her talent was recognised as among Australia’s best at the 2012 National School Futsal Titles in Townsville earlier this month.
Jacinta competed at the national titles as part of the 15 Year Girls Queensland Country Futsal team.
At the national competition, the Queensland Country side competed against Queensland City, North Queensland Ayr, North Queensland and New SouthWales.
Jacinta’s performance at the national event caught the eye of the international selection panel.
Since the 2012 National Futsal Championships, Jacinta has been selected for the 15/16 Year Girls Australian Futsal Team which will tour Brazil in 2013.
Jacinta said she could not wait to head to the futsal hub of the world in August next year.
“Not only will I receive training from the highest quality futsal coaches but I will also have my first trip overseas,” she said. “I can’t wait.” Mum Michelle said she was impressed with her daughter’s achievements in the sport after only 12 months of playing.
“I’m just very happy and proud of her,” Mrs Griffin said.
“We didn’t expect her to get this far because she hasn’t done it for that long.
“She has played soccer for probably five years and tried futsal through school and really like it.
“That’s where it all started really.”
