Central and North Burnett Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

OPPORTUNISTIC theft is in the focus of Gayndah Police.

Crime prevention pamphlets have been dropped into letterboxes around town, to ensure residents are vigilant with home security.

The pamphlets warn thieves target open patios and verandas for valuables and commonly enter properties through unlocked doors and windows.

Items that thieves prioritise include laptops, cameras, mobile phones, wallets and gaming systems.

Sergeant Lucas-Hampson said “with summer coming up, it’s important to remind residents not to leave their windows open”.

Sgt Hampson said he hoped the crime prevention pamphlets would make people more aware of opportunistic property crime and provide some helpful tips.
