Ath­letes take on chal­leng­ing events

Fun run, walk and triathlon put fit­ness fa­nat­ics to the test in Gayn­dah

GAYN­DAH got phys­i­cal last week­end.

On Satur­day things kicked off with the Duke and Duchess Fun Run and Walk, and on Sun­day ath­letes showed grit and de­ter­mi­na­tion in the Gayn­dah Dis­trict Triathlon.

The Fun Run 2012 Duke was Marvin Mem­breno and Michelle Fry was crowned as the Duchess.

The high school age win­ner was Re­becca O’Brien and the pri­mary school win­ners were Ella Dar­ling­ton and Dean Thomp­son.

The over­all win­ners of the triathlon were Richard Reiser and Lisa Baker, with Baker win­ning her sec­ond con­sec­u­tive Gayn­dah Dis­trict Triathlon ti­tle.

Event or­gan­iser Kirsty Robert­son said the event was a “great suc­cess”. “A lot of peo­ple came dow­nand cheered on their fam­ily mem­bers and friends,” she said. ■ Win­ners: Team – Che­quered Spark - Lu­cas Hamp­son and Brett Holden. Over 45s – team win­ner Vin­tage Whine - Ju­dith Wood­manHuth, Derek Mor­ris and Ru­pert Crook­shank. Mini 9 and Un­der win­ner Trin­ity Dar­row and win­ning team Cheeky Mon­keys - Zahra Roth, Kody Baker and Ge­or­gia Goldie. Ju­nior 10-12 win­ners Hugh Reiser, Holly Bryant, and team Some Speed - Grace Robert­son, So­phie Evans and Sam O’Brien. Ju­nior 13-16 win­ner Josh Bryant and team 97s - Josh Robert­son, Hay­din Else­bach and Ben Kenny. Try It Kids win­ners Joel Clancy, Torra McDon­ald and The In­vaders team - Tom Colvin, War- wick Pearse and Kaleb Wilkin­son. Try it masters win­ner Lisa Sul­li­van-Baker and the Can Do team - Lisa Bayntun, Emma Kennedy and Cris Bryant.
