“Ken O’Dowd – Hope, Reward & Opportunity in Flynn”

The recent release of the Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook has again confirmed that the current Government really has no grasp on our nation’s finances. The Government has revised its forecast surplus down and the very next day it was confirmed that they will receive no revenue from the Mining Tax, the hope of any surplus at all seems highly unlikely. Current Government net debt is sitting at nearly $150 billion. To put that into perspective, the interest bill is costing the country $20 million every day. The simple reality is that this is a situation that is totally unsustainable. Whilst we may continue to enjoy the luxuries that our current lifestyle affords us as a nation, it’s our children and grandchildren that will be saddled with the responsibility of paying for the mistakes of a Government that is addicted to spending. Now we face a situation in which the Labor Government is making cuts to areas such as Defence and Education to protect its budget surplus. It shouldn’t have gotten to this, which is why I am totally committed to the Coalition policies of restoring wisdom and security in the Government’s handling of the budget.
