BIGGENDEN has its own Diabetes Support Group.

Formed in May, information mornings are being held on the last Friday monthly in the conference room of Biggenden Place.

Hosted by the Mundubbera Community Development and co-ordinated by Biggenden Aged Care’s Eleanor Liston and Biggenden-Gayndah Blue Care’s Melinda McIntyre, the mornings are attracting an average of 15 residents.

Mrs Liston said clinical nurse Lyn Heaton had shared hints and handouts and discussed portion sizes, low GI foods and healthy eating alternatives.

She said members had been enjoying the mornings and it was an opportunity for them to discuss any problems they had with their Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.

“For example, in October, the group looked at Christmas cakes and other treats which would be suitable fare for diabetics,” she said.
