Supporting our heritage
Celebration helped by concert
THE Eidsvold community continues to reap the rewards from a successful Get Your Groove Back concert in 2009, when great community support resulted in almost $10,000 being raised.
Then, the Burnett Inland Economic Development Organisation matched every $1 raised with an additional $10.
The commitment has seen almost $100,000 injected back into projects and services in Eidsvold during the past three years.
The most recent contribution was to the Eidsvold Historical Society in support of the upcoming 125th anniversary celebrations.
The $3670 donation will go towards the activities and displays at the November 17 event.
Dubbed Heritage Day, the event was being organised by the society to mark the anniversary of the gazettal of the goldfields in Eidsvold in 1887.
“Our township was initially built around goldmining,” Eidsvold Historical Society secretary Evelyn Bancroft said.
“The anniversary is something to be celebrated and we are grateful for BIEDO’s assistance towards the event.”
The event, being held in conjunction with the annual Eidsvold Musicians Muster, caters to all ages and interests.
Councillor Paul Francis said he was pleased to see the funds from the Get Your Groove Back concert and BIEDO going back to the com- munity and towards a worthwhile community event. ■ For more information about the Eidsvold Historical Socie- ty’s upcoming Heritage Day, contact Evelyn Bancroft on 4165 0895 or Jan Mossman on 4165 1337.
