Gayndah’s stars win way to state
DOMINATION by Gayndah’s Little Athletics team ensured multiple qualifications in the state competition.
The Central Coast Regional Relays event took place at Gayndah Sportsgrounds last Saturday and athletes travelled from Isis, Burrum Heads, Hervey Bay and Gayndah for the action.
The regional record was smashed by under-17 shot-putters Hayden Crofts and Cyrelle Mitchell who broke the previous mixed team record by 2.51m.
The U15 girls 4x100m relay team were also record breakers after running in a time of 58 seconds, as Alana Evans, Eron Mitchell, Kirra Mitchell and Taylor McCosker crushed the last record by 1.4 seconds.
Kyle Crofts, Eron Mitchell and Kirra Mitchell qualified for the state competition in three events each.
The junior athletes also had a field day with U7 girls MaddyGwin winning every event she entered with a personal best time.
Lochlan Terms won the long jump in U8s with a new personal best, and the U8 girls team of Sophie Doyle and Sabrina Wagner won the long jump.
Benjamin Doyle had an excellent day in the U11 competition after setting new personal bests in long jump, discus and shot-put.
