Monto volunteers are on the ball 24/7

Central and North Burnett Times - - SES WEEK 2012 -

MONTO’S State Emergency Service works all year to be prepared for disasters including floods, fires and storms as well as other events which put people or property at risk.

The Monto branch has 10 active members and their main roles are to perform flood control, control rural fires and traffic.

The branch plays a back-up role for rural firefighters by maintaining vehicles. It also provides traffic con- trol for urban fire units. Storm damage accounts for the vast majority, about 90%, of the branch’s work.

The Monto branch meets every third Tuesday and fourth Wednesday of the month at the Luthje’s Rd facility near the council depot. Members arrive at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. The sessions run for two hours.
