Marriage stands the test of time
MONTO couple Vic and Muriel Mundt will celebrate 65 years of marriage next week.
Their story starts in 1939 when they first met as 13-year-olds on neighbouring dairy farmers in the Monto district.
Then in 1942 they declared themselves a couple.
The country was in the grip of war and they wanted to play their part in defending the nation. Vic put his name down for military service but was declared medically unfit while Muriel did reliefwork for people in the Bancroft – Canindah district.
“One family had five children to look after and there was plenty of milk- ing to be done in between,” Muriel said.
When the couple married in 1947 they bought a dairy farm at Bancroft and raised their three children Rodney, Jan and Marlene.
And Vic was on nearly every board except the CWA and was busy with anything to keep the farm running.
“I was handy at everything, fixing windmills, sinking wells, any machinery that needed fixing,” Vic said.
The Mundts moved to townin Monto in 2004 and are proud of their eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
They will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on November 26.
HAPPY TOGETHER: Vic and Muriel Mundt have had 65 happy years of marriage.
