Drain work under way

Central and North Burnett Times - - OPINION -

IT HAS been an extraordinary two weeks with storm rainfall that we have not seen for many years on top of a still soggy under-surface from the flood period we experienced in 2010/11.

Water was still seeping out of the hills and even the north east town entrancewas oozing water before getting the first rains this season.

Gardeners were telling me that six inches (15cm) under the dry surface cap which only displayed dead grass was still quite wet.

Under these conditions, where we had over 10 inches of rain in two weeks, the water has not been able to soak away.

Council has recently cleaned some of the drains.

I expect that this will be ongoing as the maintenance budget permits. Cr Faye Whelan
