Cit­rus hold-up

CEN­TRAL and North Bur­nett Times con­tacted Cit­rus Aus­tralia re­gard­ing the cit­rus hold-up at the In­done­sian Port be­fore the story ran on Novem­ber 15. Com­ment was not re­ceived in time but Cit­rus Aus­tralia CEO Ju­dith Dami­ani said Cit­rus Aus­tralia was work­ing closely with its ex­porters and the Aus­tralian Government to un­der­stand the ex­tent of the is­sues and re­solve them. “We are as­sist­ing by keep­ing our ex­porters in­formed of the new re­stric­tions on la­belling, in­de­pen­dent pre-ship­ment sur­veys and im­porter quo­tas, and it is fair to say that the sit­u­a­tion still re­mains some­what con­fus­ing,” Ms Dami­ani said. “In­done­sia is one of our most valu­able and ex­pand­ing cit­rus ex­port des­ti­na­tions and is the lead­ing ex­port des­ti­na­tion for Aus­tralian man­darins. This sea­son (2012 cal­en­dar year) to date cit­rus ex­ports to In­done­sia was val­ued at $12 mil­lion.”
