Records tumble in the pool
COALSTOUN Lakes State School student Blake Bechly has enjoyed great success in the pool this year.
After breaking several records at the Biggenden district competition, he travelled to Mundubbera to compete in the North Burnett Zone carnival.
And the 10-year-old broke a record that had been held for 31 years when he swama time of 34.54 in his freestyle event.
The previous record of 36.10 was set in 1981 by C Stafford.
In backstroke he broke R Bernie’s 2000 record and set the new time to beat at 43.51.
Another swimmer who performed well at the zone carnival was Jacy Kirdy of Mundubbera who was recently selected as a reserve in the Wide Bay breaststroke medley relay team.
RECORD BREAKER: Blake Bechly of Coalstoun Lakes State School smashed long-held records in his swimming events this year.
